Australian watchmaker Bausele to pioneer new crowdfunding reforms

Australian watchmaker Bausele aims to be the first private Australian company to raise funds through equity crowdfunding in its quest to build a truly global, luxury watch brand.

Bausele, the innovative Sydney-based luxury watchmaking company, is set to launch an equity crowdfunding offer in a bid to raise up to $500,000. It will aim to produce an exciting new model range, grow stock levels, and open new marketing opportunities.

Legislation passed in September will allow Proprietary Limited (Pty Ltd) companies to access equity crowdfunding from 19 October, 2018. Bausele will list on equity crowdfunding platform Birchal, which enables companies with an annual turnover and gross assets of up to $25 million to issue shares to everyday mum and dad investors.

Potential investors in Bausele can invest up to $10,000 in the brand. Anyone investing more than $1000 will receive a limited edition Bausele watch.

Bausele watches have a distinctly Australian element, with each timepiece carrying a small element of Australia in its crown. The model range has included crushed-up tiles from the Sydney Opera House, sand from Bondi or Whitehaven beaches, red earth from the Kimberley, and Opal from Coober Pedy.

Bausele is one of Australia’s most innovative watch brands, having established a small production unit in Adelaide in collaboration with Flinders University to produce a lightweight proprietary case material known as Bauselite for its flagship Terra Australis model.

They have formed partnerships to produce bespoke watches in cooperation with the Sydney Opera House, visual artist Scott Marsh, St Hugo Wines, the Australian Army Intelligence Corp, and more. Other partnerships are in the works, including an exciting development to become a licensee with the country’s premier sporting code, the Australian Football League (AFL).

Bausele watches are sold through leading retailers such as David Jones, Qantas and Fairfax’s online stores, as well as directly through bausele.com.au.

The Australian-born star of US drama ‘Prison Break’, Dominic Purcell, is the brand’s global ambassador.

Having sold 3500 watches in the past five years, Bausele aims to further broaden its multi-model range and become a globally renowned manufacturer of high-quality timepieces inspired by Australia’s remarkable natural assets.
